So… the first official posting on our new weblog. (blog) I’m hoping that this will be more easily accessible for everyone. Our old one was often inaccessible to many, and that just doesn’t make it very useful. I don’t have time to fuss with this stuff too much, so I’m hoping that this just works well, and easily.
This weeks’ example for training is listed below, and hopefully it will be more legible too. I hope that everyone is getting out for runs on a regular basis now. If not, then you need to get going! This is for your benefit not mine. It is also for your teams’ benfit as well.
You are going to be on a team that has the capacity to be very strong this year. I mean what I just wrote. What we need is for people to step up and work to earn spots on varsity and close to it. As is often the case at this point we wait to see who will dedicate themselves to making the difference. We are in the fortunate position to have not only several Seniors that are able to make the big step up – if they wish, we also have multiple people in each of the other grades who can do it as well. It only remains to be seen who wants to do the work and enable himself to make the improvement when the season is half way through. I always have people in mind, but they are not always the ones who will dedicate themselves. Will you be one of them?
In my view, every season is a new start. Some people return, but there is always change. You are never given anything because it is your due. You must earn everything that you achieve this next season. If you choose to start in a hole, then crawl out and then begin climbing the ladder of fitness toward goals for the season, then that is your business. However you are not doing your team or yourself any favors. To start the season with a base of training and be prepared is to be at the base of the ladder at the beginning of the season. Your preparation now determines how high you climb in pursuit of your goal, and what you will be able to accomplish in the end.
What we manage to do as a team is earned from year to year as well. We must make it back to the state championship and then perform to the best standard possible for that day in order to maintain or improve the standing held by our team at the end of last season. Remember also; it is likely that noone will remember where our team finished last year. It’s unlikely that we’ll be ranked during the season no matter how well you perform. In a way, I kind of like that. At least, I love being the dark horse. We certainly seem to have a way of being just that!
Move over Seabisquit, I’m gonna sink me some Pirates!
