FRIDAY : VETERANS PARK – DIVISION & BAY ST. (ALMOST AT GRANDVIEW PARKWAY)

vs. Howell

Different. Howell is not a push-over to begin the season. They particularly enjoyed being able to beat us yesterday. We are the #4 returning team in the state, and now you know what it’s like to have a target on your back. Others want to beat you. They focus on you, and from now on you will be better prepared for that. It’s good for you to be beaten. How does it feel? It’s time to start feeling some hunger. Each season’s success is achieved only from your efforts involved with the current season. Last year is history, you are only as good as your last race this year.

So let’s get a move on! You are right where you need to be at this time. Make the most of it with each workout.

If you ran last years’ races on this course, what were your times? What did you do at the Howell race? Or at the conference meet – which was later in the season? Comparisons are good in that way, be aware of where you are at.
Even though it wasn’t a win, we saw many good things happening in this race. We had strong running up front with Geoff and with Erik, will it get better? You bet. Mitch, Dan and Kirk rounded out the top 5 and were very close – working with each other. – great job! Ray, Eric N. and Matt L. moved forward in the last mile – proving to themselves that they can do that when it hurts! Alex Hawke earned his varsity letter (already) by being the #9 man! Great job, and great racing! Heath & Robert Ran solid with Russell right behind them in another very good race. (after having been ill this week) I can’t mention everyone and get enough sleep tonight, but Fabian did survive the most difficult xc race of his highschool career as well.

Remember that what matters now is that you challenge yourself and learn how to improve. From this point in the season when the groundwork is laid, everything begins to climb upward.

Monday – THRU Wednesday at Twin Lakes. A good idea to bring a towel at least on Mon. & Weds., but even better to bring one all 3 days just in case.

Thursday & Friday to be announced.

TOMORROW AT WESTWOODS

TOMORROWS WORKOUT WILL BE AT WESTWOOD ELEMENTARY, 8:00AM – VARIETY IN TRAINING GROUNDS.

DIRECTIONS: FROM TOWN / NORTH OF LONG LAKE – TAKE N. LONG LAKE RD ALL THE WAY AROUND THE NORTH END OF LONG LAKE, PAST THE STONE WALL, AND TRAVEL SOUTH ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE LAKE.
AT THE STOPSIGN / INTERSECTION OF W LONG LAKE & THEIL RD. > GO STRAIGHT THRU. THIS BECOMES FISHER RD. & ABOUT 1/2 MILE UP ON THE LEFT WILL BE THE SCHOOL.

FROM INTERLOCHEN > TAKE W LONG LAKE TO THE SAME INTERSECTION, AND THEN TURN LEFT ONTO FISHER.

FRIDAYS’ WORKOUT WILL BE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AGAIN SO THAT WE CAN ALSO DO SOME COURSE PREP WORK. ***REMEMBER THE RACE ON SATURDAY & ALL OF THE INTERACTION WITH THE HOWELL TEAMS***

This was a very nice race for a start to our season. No one ran what they are fully capable of right now, but after the week’s training that you had; you aren’t supposed to be fully able. If you were, I wouldn’t have trained you hard enough to that point.
I’m pleased with what you accomplished. As a team, you showed me just what I knew was in this group. Now we move forward steadily as we train through the first several meets. When you finally do race fresh and rested, you’ll really be ready to roll. Learn to race tired, you will be that when you race well. It toughens you, and you’ll be better for it at the end of the season. You’ll learn to push yourself to where you need to be. Z

***** Time change for Saturday race vs. Howell *****

This fall is the first season for a new system in determining who runs first from year to year; boys or girls. So I am finding that hardly anyone knows which is right, and I didn’t remember. So when I found a revised schedule for the Fremont meet with the girls running at 9 and the boys varsity at 9:30, I figured that Glen Lake had it right on Saturday.

So we are changing the times that I just posted last night. The schedule will be as follows:
GIRLS 9:00 am
BOYS 9:30 am

This is a dual meet, and as such, all of the team races at the same time.

AUG 19 > THIS WEEK IN CROSS COUNTRY – A LOT HAPPENING

A GREAT CAMP! CONGRATS TO ALL WHO WERE THERE!
CAMP SHOWS A TYEAM THAT IS ALREADY TAKING SHAPE AS ONE THAT WILL HAVE GREAT MOMENTUM.

MONDAY – PRACTICE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL TRACK > 8:00 AM.
PICTURES ARE SCHEDULED FOR 10:00, HOPEFULLY WE WILL BE DONE BY 10:45?

WE’LL BE HANDING OUT UNIFORMS TOMORROW. PLEASE TAKE GOOD CARE OF THEM, THEY AREN’T YOUR AVERAGE CHEAP H S JUNK UNIFORM. DO NOT WASH THEM WITH BLEACH. COOL OR WARM WATER, GENTLE SETTING, WITH THE PRINT TURNED INWARD WORKS VERY WELL, AND THE DIRT CLEANS OUT EASILY.
THEY ARE NOT TO BE WORN – EXCEPT FOR A MEET DAY – ONLY! WE BUY OUR OWN, WE MAKE THEM LAST.

TUESDAY – WEDS. AT LEAST WE WILL MEET AT TWIN LAKES CAMP. THAT IS 1 1/4 MILES WEST OF THE HIGH SCHOOL ON NORTH LONG LAKE ROAD – 8 AM AS WILL BE THE NORM UNTIL SCHOOL STARTS.

>HOWELL’S TEAMS WILL ARRIVE FRIDAY AFTERNOON AS USUAL, THEY STAY AT TWIN LAKES.
>FRIDAY NIGHT WE ALL GO OR MEET AT FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE DOWNTOWN, DOING THIS WITH HOWELL, AND GETTING DINNER DOWN THERE.
>SATURDAY IS OUR DUAL MEET WITH THEM. WE PLAN TO RUN THE BOYS RACE AT 9:00 & THE GIRLS AT 9:30.
>THEN AFTER CLEAN UP WE GO BACK TO TWIN LAKES & DO A COOK OUT, HOPEFULLY THE WEATHER WILL BE GOOD, BECAUSE WE WANT TO GO TO NORTH BAR FOR THE AFTERNOON, AND THEN BACK TO TWIN LAKES FOR PIZZA & A BONFIRE.
>SUNDAY MORNING WE SEND THEM ON THEIR WAY WITH A LITTLE BREAKFAST / BRUNCH ORGANIZED BY TEAM PARENTS (PLEASE CALL DEB HASENMYER – 276-1186 OR DEE YANCHO 275-7039 TO FIND OUT HOW YOU COULD HELP)
SO YES, THERE’S A LOT GOING ON. WE ENCOURAGE OUR TEAM TO GET INVOLVED AND SPEND TIME WITH THE HOWELL TEAM. THEY DON’T COME UP HERE TO BE BY THEMSELVES. THEY COME HERE BECAUSE I INVITE THEM HOPING TO AFFORD MY TEAM THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET TO KNOW ANOTHER D1 TEAM OTHER THAN TCC. SO THIS IS A GREAT TIME! IT IS UP TO YOUR SON IF HE WISHES TO STAY AT TWIN LAKES. IF HE DOES WANT TO THE FEE IS $5.00 PER NIGHT. (CHEAP) WE NEED TO ASK PARENTS TO PITCH IN $4.00 PER PERSON FOR THE COOK OUT, AND HAVE SOME MONEY FOR THE PIZZA. SO ONCE AGAIN IT GETS INVOLVED, BUT IT DOES A VERY GOOD THING. SO IT’S EASILY WORTH IT.

>>>FOR SATURDAY WE WILL NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR THE MEET. WE’LL NEED TIMERS, COURSE MONITORS AND FINISH RECORDERS. PLEASE CONSIDER HELPING, IT DOESN’T HAPPEN WITHOUT THE VOLUNTEERS. (PLUS YOU CAN STILL SEE YOUR SON RUN) WE WILL NEED ALL WORKERS TO BE AT THE TRACK BY 8:15. THE TEAM WILL NEED TO BE THERE BY 7:30.

I THINK WE WILL GO TO THE PLATTE RIVER CAMPGROUND IN THE FUTURE & HAVE RESERVATIONS NOW THAT I KNOW IT CAN BE DONE THERE, SO THAT WE CAN AVOID THIS IN THE FUTURE. FOR NOW THOUGH, WE NEED HELP.

> PRACTICE TIME FOR TUESDAY DEPENDS ON WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE # OF FOLKS HELPING OUT WITH RESERVING. COULD BE 7 AM, COULD BE 8:15. DEPENDS ON WHETHER I NEED TO BE RESERVING A SITE MYSELF TO MAKE THE #. (WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO GET 7 SITES)

HEY; GREAT WORK!

Well, we’ve done very well in the past. I’m always looking for what will gain the team the greater income for the effort expended. I also prefer by far to have the guys on the team perform a service for the money that we are paid/given. We’ve done several things in the past, anything that pays well requires a fair amount of work. That was no different today. There was a lot of work accomplished today, I would like to know how many cars we actually washed.
So our previous best was around $1200 that we made with a real hustle car wash about 4 years ago at Super wash, one of 2 that we had there. Now I believe that we have some money out there yet that was forgotten today. It appears that I should receive sales income from 11 team members yet. Still that just makes the fact that I’ve counted up over $2300.00 all that more special!

You guys did a great job! Many of you were great salesmen. Many were especially good with the work today. Others were particularly good at dancing!

So I thought that you might like to know how it came out.

CHANGE FOR CAR WASH — & CHECK THE ARCHIVES – MUCH INFO!

BY NOW YOU SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED AN E-MAIL OR A PHONE CALL LETTING YOU KNOW THAT WE WILL HAVE THE CAR WASH AT THE BILL MARSH DEALERSHIP ON GARFIELD AVE. ONLY!
BILL TOLD ME THAT WE WILL BE SET UP ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE DEALERSHIP NEAREST TO THE AIRPORT.

YOU SIMPLY NEED TO SHOW AT THE TIME THAT YOU HAD BEEN ASSIGNED 8:30 – 12:30 OR 11:30 – 3:30. IF YOU DON’T KNOW – THEN CALL, OTHERWISE WE EXPECT TO SEE YOU THERE AT THAT TIME WITH ENVELOPE IN HAND, MONEY ENCLOSED, ALL TICKETS SOLD.

THIS CAN BE QUITE FUN, THE WEATHER IS SUPPOSED TO BE PRETTY GOOD. JUST BE READY TO DO A GOOD JOB FOR OUR CUSTOMERS.
