“”"”PANTS”"”

Posted by tcwxc on October 31, 2008

I don’t have any good news about those long lost uniform pants. What a useless venture that was -for this season at least. I don’t think that I had posted what I had found so…

I spoke with Daniel at the downtown Running Fit Store after I had asked him to check on them the last time. He told me that he found that the smalls that we are waiting on have an anticipated ship date of Dec. 1. So I will be distributing these to your sons after that. I suppose I could go to the school in a Santa outfit to hand them out by them couldn’t I?

That is what I expect that I’ll do though, is notify everyone who has been waiting for them and meet at the school – after  school.

**********  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  ***********

More pants news:: A pair of LARGE brooks team pants were lost by Mr. Ethan Poirier at the Elk Rapids meet. We know that they were not left on the ground after everything else was picked up. If they show up in the laundry at your house would you please let me or Ethan know please? (they aren’t going to fit those waiting for the smalls very well) Thank you.

REGIONAL RESULTS

Posted by tcwxc on October 28, 2008

Well; that’s it for this year. Apparently we could only overcome so many obstacles this year. The regional was as tough as I had expected, and our crew ran well again. We needed to have at least 6 run outstanding races for us to have a chance to make it to the state championship. We didn’t have that, but we did have some PR’s and solid runs. There was great disappointment, but performance-wise, it was emblematic of this season.  We’ll all get over it; but let’s not forget it.

The weather was wet, and almost warmish, not bad. The sun even came out for the race. After just one race prior to ours, the course became a bit torn up and quite slick. I was surprised that it didn’t make for overly fast times. There is a great future for us as a team, and our seniors have done a great job in setting the tone for the success to come. I thank them for that. It’s hard to have a team that is any better to coach. There can be those teams that are more successful in the end, but then more of a pain in the rear to manage. This team has a standard of ethics, teamwork and comradery that is hard to top. We owe the seniors quite a lot in helping to create and maintain that throughout the season.

There were 16 teams in the regional.

1- Sag. Heritage  44

2- Bay City Western  67

3- Grand Blanc   86

4- TCC   117

5- Midland Dow   153

6- Swartz Creek    157

7- TCW   162

In the race, our guys executed better than in any other this season. They went out and established a spot in the first mile, in the second pack that put them in good position. We had strong grouping with only 32 seconds between Ray (1) & Sebby (5). They worked together, I could hear them during the race talking to and encouraging each other. Let’s keep that, and the terrific depth of talent that we have, and move forward.

1 – Stephen Walker  (Midland Dow) 15:38

26 – Ray Innis   17:07

30 – Jonah Laursen  17:16

32 – Matt Laylin    17:19

34 – Erik Wilson    17:23

41 – Sebby Kucera   17:39

44 – Heath Bristol   17:45

65 – Brad Clark    18:29

Overall, like I mentioned earlier; it was another step up, we just need another 6 weeks at this point to develop to what this team is capable of. All in all guys, a good job. I know that no one is satisfied, and that is good. For every experience there is a lesson and growth to be gained from it. No one is able to stay on top at all times, and from this we gain strength to be applied to the future.

We had a great weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed traveling with the guys, and I hope that they all had a good time as well. I want to thank the Clarks’ for having the regional team over for dinner on Thursday evening. Especially to Tracy Clark for cooking up a masterful, fully homemade pasta dinner that was just wonderful. Thank you! We all appreciated it very much.

Well don’t forget about the banquet coming upon Friday November 7. You should have already received information about that evening. If you haven’t yet, then you may want to contact Dana Laursen at 922-1681. I hope that she’s ok with me turning you her way, but she’s heading up the 4 person team that is planning the annual potluck awards evening. It’s something to look forward to in itself. Everyone seems to enjoy themselves, and along with a great potluck dinner; that’s what we strive for. See you then,  Z

REGIONAL — TEAM INFO.

Posted by tcwxc on October 23, 2008

For those who are not in the know, our regional championship is being hosted by Bay City Western @ Delta College. (just north of SVSU) A very tough regional and it’s going to be very interesting to see how it plays out. Our team is rising and we wait to see who of those that have been so powerful through the season; can keep that edge, and who will unravel on the day. I see it as being 5 teams other than ours that factor into the battle. It will be, and is, exciting.

We leave Friday. the guys will be excused from class at 2:00. We’ll plan to leave by about 2:15.

We’ll be driving THE van, and with a stop on the way, I expect to arrive at the course at around 5. That gives us enough daylight to take our time and let the guys become acquainted with the course. After we’re done we’ll head for the hotel – the Americinn @ 3 mile rd. in Bay City. (the phone # is 989-671-0071) There we’ll check in, change and head off to have dinner somewhere. Call it a night, and get ourselves to the course by about 8:00 am the next morning.

Our race is at 9:40, the girls race at 11:00.

There is a $7 per car entry fee. Parking on the grass or the edge of the road isn’t permitted. There is a concession stand available. Pets are not allowed at the course.

Each of the guys will need to have a check or $30 for their hotel stay, enough money for dinner Fri. night, and lunch on the way home Saturday. A snack on the way down Fri. would be good, but they could bring that with them if it works out for the families. Most of what they would attempt to buy on the way down would be junk. I know of one place south of Cadillac that we could try if we need to.

It will probably be around 3:30 when we get home Saturday.

Directions:

Take 10 past Midland, goto I-75 and turn south (Right) toward Flint.

Once you’re on I-75 south take the first exit on 84 (i believe that it’s Saginaw Rd.)

Go to the right, once past the fast food  & gas stations there will be a stoplight with the cross roads meeting at odd angles on either side. You need to turn right onto Delta Rd. (turning left takes you to Sag. Valley State U.)

On Delta Rd. you go just a half mile or so and the entrance to Delta College is on the right. It winds its’ way back into the campus and you’ll see the course marked out on the right

GAYLORD ROTARY RESULTS

Posted by tcwxc on October 22, 2008

Sorry for the wait, these JV race results didn’t show up until about 11:00 pm on my e-mail.

Well that’s it! A big part of our season is over. Many seniors have now run their last race. I always hate to see it come along. I almost wish it could be a 6 month season. That’s me, I love this stuff, it’s my favorite sport. My hope is that now maybe it is for some of you as well, and that you can take with you – into your future many great memories.

Well, they did a great job. This race in Gaylord is always left to the team – without the varsity 7, to carry the flag. That they did in fine fashion, finishing 2nd in the Varsity race with most other teams running their varsity. In the JV race it was a clear win. Some feel the effects of racing 3 times in 8 days, others ran very well, but all did a good job and are to be commended. Congratulations guys! As we speculated in our camp; our JV team; with it’s sometime varsity members and tremendous depth was a force to be reckoned with.

RESULTS OF BNC CHAMPS & ELK RAPIDS INVITE

Posted by tcwxc on October 21, 2008

Well let’s play catch up. Last Tuesday in Gaylord we finished in 2nd place, with our 5th in the first meet & the 2nd in meet #2 it set us up for a tie with Cadillac for the overall scoring of the championship. They had finished 2nd then 3rd twice.

Central ran a great race, very solid. We made another step forward, but certainly not where we had wanted to be at this point. Still we move forward with each meet.

Here’s the individual results:

1 – Reece Karbowski  TCC 16:54

7- Ray Innis  17:28

10 – Jonah Laursen  17:33

11 – Sebby Kucera   17:33

13 –  Heath Bristol   17:37

16- Matt Laylin   17:51

17 – Ian Butler   17:51

32 – Ryan Ness   19:03

The Boys JV race ended up being some of the main talk of the meet, as our squad showed some real strength and served notice of what is to come. Our team finished 1 – 8 to dominate the scoring which isn’t actually done for this meet in the JV section. If they had, the score would have been TCW at the perfect score of 15,  TCC 65, Petoskey  85, and on up from there. Congratulations to the team on a job well done!

Joe Yancho won the race going away in 18:03

2 – Alex Hawke  18:18

3 –  Trent Hibbard  18:25

4 – Addison Brown  18:26

5 – Brad Clark  18:30

6 – Jack Lyon  18:33

7 – Hunter Swogger  18:35

8 – Forrest Verellen  18:36

14 – Dylan Snider  18:58

15 – Chris Chargo  18:58

16 – Ryan Schaef   19:02

19 – Sam Messina  19:10

22 – Russell Carter  19:14

25 – Dan Schmidt   19:17

29 – Trevor Painter  19:27

33 – Alex Goldsmith  19:36

34 – Max Verellen  19:36

37 – Eric Brefka  19:41

40 – John Troost  19:57

49 – Kasey Goss  20:13

55 – Brad Allen  20:22

56 – Nick Callahan  20:22

57 – Landon Meggison  20:23

67 – Devin Wennersten  21:07

73 – Evan Poirier  21:18

78 – Tyler Stephens  22:21

83 – Sam Yancho  23:05

90 – Ben Yancho   24:07

GREAT JOB GUYS, LET’S DO IT AGAIN AT THE GAYLORD ROTARY!

=================================================================

ELK RAPIDS INVITATIONAL

Many of you were there, so you know basically what happened, but our full results always help to round it out. We ran 2 varsity squads, which was a good thing given how close our top 15 or so have been all season. It was a perfect day and once again pretty much everyone made as step forward in performance.

1- Benzie Central  47

2- Harbor Springs  99

3- TCW Gold  103

4- Gaylord  106

5- Elk Rapids  116

6- St, Francis  190

7- Charlevoix  202

8- TCW Green  205   (18 teams)

Gold team:

11 – Jonah Laursen  17:13

12 – Ray Innis   17:13

23 – Sebby Kucera  17:38

28 – Heath Bristol  17:47

29 – Matt Laylin  17:48

45 – Joe Yancho  18:10

50 – Ian Butler  18:14

Green team:

27 – Brad Clark  17:46

38 – Erik Wilson  17:57

43 – Jack Lyon   18:07

46 – Addison Brown  18:11

51 – Alex Hawke  18:15

56 – Trent Hibbard  18:31

59 – Ben Dean   18:42

In the JV side of the show the “third team” did exceedingly well once again. I can never know who should be in which race form day to day. Many PR’s in this race.

1- TCW  37

2 – Benzie Central  73

3 – Bear Lake  73

4 – TCC  81       (12 teams)

Individual:

3 – Ian Hurst  17:58

5 – Chris Chargo  18:05

7 – Hunter Swogger  18:08

10 – Dylan Snider  18:09

12 – Alex Goldsmith  18:21

13 – Ryan Schaef  18:23

14 – Ryan Ness   18:25

17 – Sam Messina  18:30

25 – Joey Vanderbosch  18:45

26 – Forrest Verellen  18:46

28 – Russell Carter  18:47

30 – Max Verellen  18:49

40 – Trevor Painter  19:05

41 – Dan Schmidt   19:06

51 – Eric Brefka   19:42

55 – Kasey Goss   20:01

59 – Nick Callahan   20:03

66 – Ethan Poirier   20:34

73 – Tyler Stephens  20:57

79 – Devin Wennersten  21:22

88 – Sam Yancho  22:03

106 – Ben Yancho  24:54

VERY NICE WORK AS #’s 15 AND ON, I LOOK FORWARD TO GAYLORD #2.

POTLUCK, & THE WEEK TO COME

Posted by tcwxc on October 18, 2008

Well the day was good, the potluck was once again great! Thank you all for bringing many wonderful dishes to share. It’s certainly greatly appreciated by the whole team! I hope everyone had fun and enjoyed being able to share some time outside of a meet scenario.

I’m putting this on here so that we can all be on the same page for the upcoming week. When I get back from downstate I will have to catch up on results.

Monday — the top 7 will meet at Twin Lakes at 3:15. That is Jonah, Ray, Sebby, Heath, Matt Laylin, Brad Clark & Erik.  — Everyone else that is racing at the Gaylord Rotary on Tuesday should run 20 to 25 minutes easy. No buildups, just a light run to shake things out a little.

Tuesday — The format is the same as the conference meet. Out of class at 12:30, leave at 12:45.

Varsity runs at 4:00. Varsity for the day is: Ian Hurst, Chris Chargo, Jack Lyon, Hunter Swogger, Dylan Snider, Joe Yancho & Addison Brown. ( Those are the #’s 8 thru 14 in order of finish at Elk Rapids)

The JV will run at 5:00.

The race is at the same location- Gaylord country club, and I’ll leave you to find the directions if you need them from the posting this last week.

All team members except the alternates for regional should be prepared to turn in their shorts and singlets after their races and cool-downs. ( yes it’s THAT time)

BNC Championship & Elk Rapids

Posted by tcwxc on October 13, 2008

It’s that time. Time for championships.

The BNC Championship is Tuesday and has a different format. As usual it is at the Gaylord country club. Directions are below.

12:30 – out of class

12:45 – bus leaves for meet  (I am considering driving the varsity in my van)

4:00 – boys varsity

4:30 – girls varsity

5:00 – both JV

~ 8:45-9:00 – back to school

We will likely be stopping for pizza on the way home. Please bring a little money to kick in toward the pizza and for your drinks, etc.

directions:

goto Kalkaska and turn north on 131 – follow that thru Mancelona

North of Mancelona (nearly 8-10 miles) turn right at the blinker in Alba, onto C-42.

follow C-42 thru the twists & turns until it ends at 32. (just a few miles west of Gaylord)

turn left on 32, and about 1/2 mile on the left will be the Gaylord country club.

The club house is not open to teams or spectators, please use the porta-johns. Please don’t walk on the greens, and respect this very nice golf course. We are fortunate these days to be able to use it.

============================================================

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ELK RAPIDS INVITE & PARTY!  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday is the Elk Rapids Invite, once again we have the extreme time between the races. I’m going to do something different this year. I am going to run 2 varsity teams. That will still leave us with around 27 in the JV race. Varsity racers will be the top 14 as of Tuesday.

This is a nice little race, and if the weather is decent it is a fast course. Afterward we have the potluck gathering at my house. I’ll make my apologies now for the state of my house, but it is what it is. Please bring something with you to share, and I know that it’s easier but please don’t bring cakes, cookies, etc. Everyone is hungry after this, and the more good food we can get the better. Salads, main dishes, side dishes, beans, whatever it’s all great. I seem to be having a hard time getting it across to the team that junk and sweets are not the sort of food that we want. I’ll provide cider, hot chocolate, milk and something else. I’ll have paper plates and plastic silver ware, and glasses.

COME ONE COME ALL, I’m sorry that I haven’t mentioned this before now. The new folks don’t know what to expect with this one. Dishes can be brought to my place early in the morning, or dropped off when you are on your way to the meet. (you’ll probably have to come in & fend off the dog (he’s too friendly) to drop off your items) This usually turns into a very big gathering, so I hope that you can all come. This is probably what we need to do at the beginning of the season.

I’m going to end this note so that I can get onto other team things, but the times for the races are:

JV – 9:00

varsity – 11:45

I’ll post the rest of the details after the race Tuesday.

PORTAGE RESULTS

Posted by tcwxc on October 6, 2008

It was a beautiful day in Portage. Idyllic racing weather, maybe too nice for the liking of some of those on our team. Though when you are standing around for a long day it’s great to be warm and dry. Plus I got to put the tent away dry, it’s so nice not to have to fill the garage with tent stuff as it dries.

The team made another step forward. Finishing 24th of 40 teams is not great placing, but we did manage to beat some teams that had been ahead of us in the last 2 weeks at Jackson & CC-C. So we’re seeing improvement and some individuals are seeing a lot of it. They had great races, as Portage usually offers.

The Varsity started things off. Remember that there wee 40 teams in the race, and few that are tough weren’t there. Jonah Laursen ran a great race, and led the way for the team this time. Posting a 50 something second PR. Looking back on his splits; he ran very smart and ran the 2nd & 3rd miles very strong. Definitely a young team member that is coming on strong and showing what can be done.

Ray Innis was next and he had a PR as well, knocking off around 30 sec. he was able to make another steady improvement in this race. Heath Bristol had been sick this week, made the day on Tuesday at the BNC and rebounded pretty well here in posting a top time for himself.

Matt Laylin was sick as well in the last week and it hit him hard on Tuesday, but he ran a solid race in this one. Miles Ullenbruch put his best forward, and ran a smart race, doing very well tactically, but I suspect that he found that he just didn’t have as much in the tank as he had hoped. He’d played most of 3 soccer games the previous week, incl. Thurs. & Fri.

Sebby Kucera toughed thru a hamstring that gave him fits to be the 6th man. Ian Butler ran a strong and getting stronger race as the 7th man of the day. Ian had been one who made a huge difference to the team on Tuesday as well.

Ann Arbor Pioneer won with 67 points (!) Bay City Western was 3rd with 120, Rockford 4th- 217, Pinckney 5th- 246, Howell 12th- 377, Grand Haven 13th-429, East Kentwood- 438, TCC- 17th-484, TCW 24th- 605, Portage Northern 27th- 698, Hudsonville 30th- 792

1- Ben Miller – Warren De La Salle  15:24

86- Jonah Laursen  17:03  ( Top Freshman athlete of the day of both V & JV races!)

96- Ray Innis  17:09

132- Heath Bristol  17:28

142- Matt Laylin   17:33

148- Miles Ullenbruch  17:36

The JV race had even more competition than I had anticipated. A team that I believe to be from Ohio (Lyons Township) took the first 3 places and then 12 & 14 to seal the deal. That gave them 32 points in a huge 505 man race, what an awesome team! Especially given that their Varsity finished in 2nd for the day! Rockford was second – 93, (Ohio) Dundee Crown was 3rd- 119, Easy Kentwood 4th- 177, 5th  TCW with 238, 6th- Grand Haven  278.

Some strong racing by many in the JV ranks made for a great day, and many PR’s. Top performances were turned in by Ben Dean, Ryan Ness, Alex Hawke, Joe Yancho, Trent Hibbard, Chris Chargo, Ryan Schaef, Max Verellen, Joey Vanderbosch, Nick Callahan, (first race at Portage as a Senior!) Trevor Painter, Dan Schmidt, John Troost, Eric Brefka, Tyler Stephens, Brad Allen, Ethan Poirier, and Devin Wennersten. That’s a lot of guys having a standout day, great job guys!

This was a good day. Even the charter driver was great! (I was concerned about that after the Rochester episode) Now we have a week off. We train, with adjustments; for the end of the season to help bring everyone up to their best performances. Keep your focus, we just don’t have to travel. We relax, then take on the BNC championship next week. Remember that the Elk Rapids Invite is coming up, and that means that the pot luck party at my place will be happening after=no matter what the weather. More info. on that later- for those that are new to the team.
